London Black Holes Workshop

Three weeks ago I attended the Branes and Black Holes Workshop at King's College London in association with one of the Newton Institute programs.  It was a big workshop with around 80 participants (not many from the London/Cambridge area though). There were many interesting talks and judging from the different discussions during breaks the most popular ones were the ones by Andy Strominger on "Progress on dS/CFT" and Finn Larsen on "Conformal Symmetry for General Black Holes". Two of the talks were based on my current research on the role played by the black hole's inner horizons: "Black Holes Monodromy" and my talk " Universal properties and the first law of black hole inner mechanics" which you can browse here.

Keep tuned the Cargese Summer School report comes next!

Harvard Gra-dua-tio

With great curiosity I observed today the different rituals of Havard's Commencement Day (Graduatio in latin as in some of the traditional speeches I heard today) which started with a campus wide early breakfast at 6:45 am. There were speeches and music before and after each Diploma Awarding Ceremony of every School. Later, in the afternoon, walking through the Yard filled with now ex-alumni in crimson/black gowns and proud parents I could feel in the atmosphere their excitement and bitter sweet emotions.

Networking in Argentina

I came back yesterday from my trip to Argentina.

At the Colegio Eucaristico
de La Plata, Argentina.
My inspirational "Horizons" talk (in spanish) on Friday at the Colegio Eucaristico of La Plata went very well. After the talk many students came to ask questions on black holes and scientific careers -- see the picture on the side. I made an emphasis on those careers in science, such as geophysics and astrophysics, that enjoy nowadays of 0% unemployment rate after graduation.  The article "Four careers with 0% unemployment" says the same thing!

On a social gathering on Saturday I met Dr. Julio Cesar Alak, currently Argentina's Minister of Justice and Human Rights (Ministro de Justicia y Derechos Humanos de la Nacion). He was curious about my academic trajectory and aware of the efforts of the government on attracting scientist living abroad back to Argentina. The main challenge in this task is to assure the research future of the returning scientists.

The Glimpse Inaugural Post

I will post here a glimpse of my life. There are too many interesting things that I encounter and it is time to put them together.
